ABOUT

The American Council of Second Amendment Lawyers (ACSAL) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to advancing legal education and understanding of firearms law in the United States. ACSAL serves as a vital resource for attorneys nationwide, offering specialized Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs focused on Second Amendment rights, firearms regulations, and related legal issues. The Council’s mission is to foster a well-informed legal community equipped to address the complexities of gun laws and the constitutional principles underpinning them.

Core Activities:

  1. Continuing Legal Education (CLE):
    ACSAL hosts CLE seminars featuring leading legal experts in firearms law, criminal defense, constitutional law, and public policy. These sessions provide in-depth insights into topics such as landmark court decisions, self-defense laws, firearm ownership rights, and regulatory compliance for Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs).
  2. Advocacy and Thought Leadership:
    The Council collaborates with attorneys, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to shape informed legal perspectives on Second Amendment issues. Through case studies, legislative updates, and discussions on emerging trends, ACSAL promotes balanced discourse and the rule of law.
  3. Expert-Led Training:
    With a network of highly experienced legal professionals, ACSAL provides training on critical topics like self-defense, racial equity in gun rights, prosecutorial ethics, and firearm regulation compliance. These sessions aim to elevate legal practitioners’ expertise and their ability to advocate effectively.

Leadership and Expertise:

The Council's faculty includes attorneys with extensive experience in criminal defense, constitutional law, and firearms regulation. Members regularly contribute to legal scholarship, author definitive works on gun law, and serve as advisors to organizations, lawmakers, and advocacy groups. Many of ACSAL’s instructors have backgrounds as prosecutors, law enforcement officers, and public policy advisors, bringing a diverse array of perspectives to their work.

  • Gun Law Updates: Analysis of pivotal cases like United States v. Rahimi and Cargill v. Garland.
  • Self-Defense Legal Strategies: Practical guidance for attorneys handling defensive use-of-force cases.
  • Federal Firearm Licensee Compliance: Workshops to help FFL holders navigate complex federal and state regulations.
